in Beijing, from flash light to street and office lighting, there have been
significantly growing applications of a new type of lighting source: the light
emitting diode (LED). Recently it has been show that lighting LEDs also have
the possibility to provide ubiquitous communications, by embedding invisible
data in their light output. With the overcrowded radio-frequency wireless
spectrum and ever increasing end-user demand for communications bandwidth, this
use of lighting LEDs for data transmission, also known as visible light
communications (VLC), becomes very promising. Projected applications include
room-based ICT provisioning, building controls systems, intelligent traffic
systems, and localization systems.
